Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
Everyone seems to realize Final Fantasy XIII was a different kind of Fantasy. But, they still like to "contrast" it to that of it's different styled predecessors. I think Final Fantasy XIII was fantastic and can't wait for XIII-2, your thoughts?
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
If they're going to change it THIS much they might as well drop the FF label. I think FFXIII was really really cool - it looks beautiful and the battle system is amazing, but it doesn't feel like part of the series. On the other hand, in my eyes things haven't been the same since they got voice actors and dropped the painted backgrounds. But that's just me being daft.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
I like the way they went about it, a very interesting Final Fantasy. Some others tend to bore me but this one kept me going strong. I enjoyed it and can't wait for XIII-2
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
But like... the storyline was, in reality, quite thin in a lot of ways. I mean, the word ragnarok was simply not used enough times considering its massive weight in the plot. Hope should have been shot at the start. The villains were not prominent like the badasses in the previous installments. Final Fantasy XIII was basically an exercise in character developement... except it only occurred in the main party. And all this was punctuated by long-ass linear dungeon crawls - beautiful, but not interesting.
And again, Hope should have been shot. Hopefully this will happen at the start of the sequel.
That kid was a pain in the ass.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
He was a CHILD you can expect him to be a bit of a pussy at times. His mom was basically killed in front of him and didn't know Snow was trying to help her he wanted angry revenge. And would YOU want to say the word "ragnarok" if you knew one of us (them) was going to turn into it? Also, it was liner because they can't f***ing look back, if they do someone will kill them and then the end of the story. They have to look forward and keep moving they have no time to shop at towns plus they're hated, no one would want them around.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
Well, Hope was destined to be a little girl.
But the other elements shouldn't have had an effect on the expression of the story (i.e., needed more clarity outside of datalog) and gameplay (Cocoon needed more variety rather than long narrow hallways, pulse succeeded in this area moreso). Also, to be honest, I would be saying Ragnarok a lot if I knew my destiny was closely tied to it. In fact, I would talk about it all the time. And they don't REALLY seem that worried about Ragnarok throughout, probably because the didn't have a clue what it was, since it was hardly explained.
Those sound like excuses rather than explanations, because it is certainly a flaw to have omitted those aspects.

Ok on Cocoon, this applies to my going forward topic. They don't have time to look around and do things, they have to keep moving to complete their focus. I do agree they could have talked more and not left everything to the datalog but again on Ragnarok, still if you knew you'd be transforming into some creature that would put mental strain on their task, if they wanted to complete it. They would have second doubts "Oh ragnarok this" and Ragnarok" that, let's not do this. If they stay quiet and focus more on their focus maybe they can overcome Ragnarok destroy Cocoon part and just save Cocoon.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
for any kind of clarification, ragnarok literaly means End of Days translated from norse

I can not get myself to like FFXIII, I have played it for several hours and I can not say that I enjoy it, to be honest.
I love Final Fantasy 1 to 10 but nothing after that.
This is just my opinion, do not take it too seriously.

Ok, I would also have a sense of urgency if I were in their situation. But I'm not, and they're in a videogame, and a videogame is made to entertain me - your can't get hung up on realities, or the game would be very different (the heroes would be shot and dead very quickly, adamanchalids would crush the living sh*t out of everyone immediately rather than tapping their feet on the ground). And if we're working on your logic, why would the mess around with c'eith stones?TatteredTime wrote:Ok on Cocoon, this applies to my going forward topic. The fact that there is little exploration is unforgivable.
And in regards to pressures of the looming presence of Ragnarok in the backs of their minds, its well know that humans function best under pressure and danger.
Also, allowing them to "overcome" their focus wasn't explained at all.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
What do you mean it wasn't explained? Snow wouldn't let it go saying "Our focus is to save Cocoon"
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
I worded that badly, what I meant was "why did they not stay as crystals when they turned into them at the end".
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
It's because Fang and Vanille saved them, did you not pay attention?
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
I've read up on it a bit, rewatched etc, and this is the clearest summary.
"The end of the game they were crystallized because they fulfilled the focus of becoming [ragnarok] and the reason why they decrystallized is up for debate. It’s never really made clear specifically how to change a Focus but it happens in game, so it never states how one pulls themselves out of crystal."
Good story telling is good. The punchline is they don't explain.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
Still, fantastic game. Final Fantasy XIII-2, will be much much much better. Pick up July's GameInformer and read the article, it explains a LOT. Someone like you who enjoys the more classic feel to FF will find it much more endearing.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
Just did a quick read up, I love the idea of the NPC branching conversation. Sh*t sounds cool.
And looking at the videos ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGkPFiTSvl0 ), the battles look even further improved. And puzzle yayayay.
Still looks like long narrow hallways though

Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
Nope no more long hallways, they're cities and places to explore! Look up a video on 5min.com of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and see one with huge maps and so many places to explore!
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
God bless you gamer-feedback, god bless squaresoft, god bless one and all!
Seriously though, thank god. Because I would genuinely feel like I had lost something if FF stopped being FF.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
I guess I can see that, well at least the debate came to a peaceful qualm.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII VS Final Fantasy Series
Just realised I called it Squaresoft haha I'm living in the past. Square-Enix iz da future.
But seriously, the battle system is really cool though. They can keep that.
