WRITING A STORY!
I am writing a fantasy story. I would like some help with this task, and I thought I'd post some things I need help with, as well as a bit of what I have so far. I need help with illustration, second story creator, and a proof reader (can also contribute to plot). the main character's name is Zeckriff, he lives in the town of Waterstone, he is among the more wealthy and friendly of the town, owns the local pub, and is the barkeep there, he is proficient with many types of weapons. That is all I have, I'm not the most creative guy on the planet.

Well... that's a start. But it's not a plot. It's just a setting and character. You need to think of a point to the story, because a documentary on the life of a pub-owner in a fictional world... KINDA boring.

Naw..... I had NO idea. (End sarcasm.) I have some ideas, but I only want to share the bulk of it with people that are actually helping.

Re: WRITING A STORY!
Organise things into the following sections:
-Opening
-Causes (of why the story goes ahead)
-Complications (overcoming the hurdles towards the solution to the cause)
-Climax (reaching the solution)
-Dénouement (tying up the aftermath)
rather than planning things as "beginning, middle and end". It strengthens structures for less complex pieces of writing (and fantasy typically comes under that bracket). Also, make sure the characters actually have personalities, because fantasy writing is terrible for bland 2D characters.

Great advice, particularly if you never took an english class passed gradeschool.
Better advice. Elaborating, make sure they have a personality that makes sense and that is persistant. Bland 2D is bad, but a character who you can't understand because it feels like he/she has Dissociative Identity Disorder is worse. Unless, of course, the character actually has Split Personality... which if done right could be interesting enough in itself.SNESkelly wrote:Also, make sure the characters actually have personalities, because fantasy writing is terrible for bland 2D characters.
